Our safety management team serves as expert advisors who help businesses manage workplace health risks so Oregonians can work safely. They provide proactive and innovative consultation and intervention services to employers who have relatively complex workplace safety needs. They also help businesses create a clear vision of a “high-performance safety culture,” and then work side by side with them to achieve it.
You will work predominantly with policyholders located on the Oregon coast, including North Bend, Florence, and Coos and Curry counties, but will serve Lane County as well. You could choose to work out of either the Eugene or North Bend offices, but must be willing to frequently travel to both locations.
Recommended qualifications
• Seven years of increasingly responsible health and safety management or loss control experience, or a bachelor’s degree in safety, risk management, or a closely related field plus three years of experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of workplace safety, loss control theory and practices, exposures, risk assessment, corrective actions, OSHA regulations, and behavior-based safety approaches
• Analytical, problem-solving, consulting, negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills
• High school graduation or equivalent
• A CSP, ARM, or CIH designation is preferred.
• Experience providing loss control or safety management services in a workers’ compensation or other insurance environment is preferred.
Other combinations of education and experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work may be considered.
Duties and responsibilities
Our senior safety management consultant
• Analyzes injury trends and other data; targets policyholders for receipt of workplace safety and health services; and visits policyholders to evaluate loss control processes and exposures
• Determines how to most effectively and efficiently deliver workplace safety and health services to a large number of accounts
• Utilizes and implements behavior-based safety approaches and a wide range of safety management programs to reduce injuries in the workplace
• Develops and communicates detailed written reports and action plans to help policyholders control accidents and incidents
• Designs, delivers, and facilitates workplace safety and health training to customers in a wide variety of industries and work settings
• Provides OR-OSHA Division One services to policyholders
Working conditions
• Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record or the ability to arrange transportation to and from various work locations
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds from the office to the car and from the car to designated locations at indoor and outdoor work sites
• Work is frequently performed in an office environment, with occasional exposure to the elements, moderate to high noise levels, and other health hazards, such as dusts, mists, fumes, vapors, heat, cold, and biologic agents.
• The work performed requires frequent sitting, standing, driving, walking, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, and near acuity. Climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and far acuity also occur occasionally in the job.
