DetailsGerdau Steel in Cambridge has an opportunity available for an Occupational Health Nurse. This is a day shift position.

Occupational Health Nurse Responsibilities:

• The Disability Management Program which includes administration of all benefit claims (WCB, STD & LTD), communications with employees, insurance carriers, physician, supervisor, manager & union.

• The Hearing Conservation Program which includes annual audiometric testing of all employees exposed to noise > 80 dB. This includes documentation, health teaching, retests, and referrals to audiologist, scheduling appointments, final notices & monthly notices.

• Mandatory program referrals & follow up as appropriate.

• The Rx Safety Glasses Program, including initiating the forms with the employee and reconciling the billing at the end of each month.

• Health advice & education

• Liaison for employees, insurance carriers & physicians

• Wellness Programs such as Smoking Cessation, Gym Membership Benefits Program information, EAP referrals, Blood Pressure, Weight, & Diabetes Screenings. This includes teaching & maintaining confidential records.

• Administering post-offer, pre-employment medicals; providing on-site first aid to all employees & contractors, along with ordering and maintaining inventory for all first aid supplies; fit testing for respirator masks and disposable dust masks; annual flu vaccinations.

• Assisting with other Safety Program activities as required.


Occupational Health Nurse Requirements:
• Must be a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) experience of 3-5 years in manufacturing/industrial setting
• Ability to work with all levels of employees including union and management (union experience is important)
• Strong commitment to high safety standards
• Superior communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and computer skills to maintain accurate records, reports & documentation
• Strong commitment to confidentiality within the unit
• Ability to work successfully in a team environment
• Critical thinking ability is essential as there is only one nurse on staff
• A positive attitude and approachability
